What You’ll Need:
- VELCRO® Brand Sew On Fastener
- Two – 25cm x 25cm pieces of fabric
- One – 25cm x 25cm piece of fusible batting
- Coordinating thread
- 90/14 Universal or Topstitch needle
How to Make a Fabric Trinket Basket
First things first, cut your materials into the following pieces:
- Two- 25cm x 25cm pieces of fabric (pieces A & B)
- One- 25cm x 25cm piece of fusible batting.
- Two- 7cm pieces of VELCRO® Brand Sew On Tape (hook side only)
- Four- 4cm pieces of the VELCRO® Brand Sew On Fastener (loop side)
Once you’ve cut all your materials, it’s time to fuse the batting to piece A. To do this, place piece A (wrong side down) on top of the batting (glue-side up). Using an iron and the manufacturing instructions, fuse the batting to the fabric.
Next, take your pieces of fabric (A & B) and lay them on top of each other, right sides facing together.
Sew a 1/2 cm seam allowance around the edge of the fabric, leaving a 7 cm gap to turn out later. Trim off each corner to reduce the bulk.
Now, turn out the sewn square and press with an iron. Sew a 1/3 cm seam allowance around the edges and quilt, if desired.
It’s time to sew the VELCRO® Brand Sew On Fasteners to the fabric! On one side, pin in place the 7cm hook tape about 1cm down from the edge. Then pin the remaining VELCRO® Brand Sew On Fastener (the loop side) to the other side of the square.
Now the fun part! Sew along the edge of the fastener by making a rectangular box and then an “X” across the center.
Pinch the corners and fold over. And that’s it! Your trinket basket is ready to be used.
Pick up a pack of VELCRO® Brand Sew On Fasteners and give this a go!
